LETTERS, Page 7Furor over Arafat
The American political system made a fool of itself by refusing
P.L.O. leader Yasser Arafat entry to the U.S. because of his
support of terrorism (WORLD, Dec. 12). If this were the real
explanation, the rule should apply to everyone, not just Arafat.
I am against terrorism and similar acts of violence, but I am glad
the U.N. decided to move the General Assembly meeting to Geneva.
Erwin Manise
Merksem, Belgium
The invitation by Sweden for Arafat to meet with an American
Jewish delegation in Stockholm is yet another example of Swedish
duplicity. Purportedly a Middle East peace initiative, it was in
reality an attempt to curry favor with the Arab world. Wearing one
hat, the Swedes launch countless peace doves; wearing another hat,
they sell more arms than you can list. The Swedish invitation to
Arafat was the epitome of hypocrisy.
Jrgen Werner
Virum, Denmark
Every time a terrorist looks in a mirror, he sees a freedom
fighter. Ergo, the P.L.O. commits no acts of terrorism. For the
Palestinians to forgo violence in order to obtain recognition as
an independent state would be a giant step forward. The world would
then look at their cause in a different light.
Joseph Scherr
Somers, Conn.
Just what more is Arafat expected to do -- kiss Israeli leaders
and thank them for stealing his country? Tell them how happy he is
that his people are routinely maimed, murdered and oppressed?
Mary E. Blazakis
